The Plan

15 Days.
Three Phases.

1
Day One
Move Today. Not Tomorrow.
  • Build your target list — programs you want AND programs where you realistically fit
  • Research roster depth at your position at every target school
  • Send introductory emails to every coach today with stats, eligibility, and highlight reel link
  • Lead with your best 30 seconds on the reel — position-specific clips only
2–7
First Week
Stay Visible. Stay Active.
  • Follow up with any coach who has not responded within 48 hours
  • Post training content on social media every day — signal that you are working
  • Request phone calls with every program showing genuine interest
  • Prepare for every call — know the program, know the roster, have questions ready
10–15
The Close
Force the Conversation.
  • Ask directly: are you still recruiting my position, how many spots remain
  • The bold question: is there anything keeping you from offering me a spot
  • Let your top program know they are your first choice if it is true
  • Let interested schools know about each other — especially conference rivals
The Email

The Subject Line
Coaches Open.

Build your highlight reel free at d1projx.com/rise — circle yourself so the coach knows which player to watch. Lead with your best 30 seconds. No editing experience required.

What Most Families
Get Wrong.

May 15 Is Not the End
May 15 closes the window for new entries only. If you are already in the portal before May 15, you can keep talking to coaches, visiting campuses, and accepting offers after the window closes. Get in before the deadline. The work does not stop there.
Coaching Change Exception
If your head coach left or was fired, you may have received a separate 30-day window to enter the portal regardless of the standard dates. If this applies to you and you have not yet entered, contact your athletic compliance office immediately.
Scholarship Reduction Exception
If your athletic aid was reduced, cancelled, or not renewed by your school, you can enter the portal at any time — outside the standard windows. You are not bound by the May 1–15 dates in this situation.
Unlimited Transfers
As of 2024 the NCAA authorized unlimited transfers for academically eligible student-athletes. There is no longer a restriction on the number of times you can transfer. Your eligibility clock continues based on years enrolled.
